Benjamin Tree Farm has been a family business since 1986, first growing Christmas trees and later adding pumpkins and fall activities. It’s a short drive from Waterloo, and for many local families it’s an easy fall outing that doesn’t take the whole day.

As of October 1, 2026, the farm hasn’t published 2026 admission prices on its website. As a guide, here’s what it listed for the 2023 fall season:
- Kids under 2 with an adult: free (2023).
- Kids 2 and up, weekends and holidays: $14.00 plus HST (2023).

In past seasons, the activity area has included the Spooky Sands Playground (a sand hill, balance beams, a climbing web and pumpkin bowling), the Towering Stalks Kiddie Corn Maze and tractor rides through the Frightening Forest, which ran on weekends and holidays in 2023. In 2023, the farm listed more than 15,000 square feet of playground space.
Pumpkins and Fall Decor
The pumpkin patch is the main draw. Explore Waterloo Region describes it this way for 2026: orange, white and specialty pumpkins, joined by gourds, mums, flowers and other fall decor. It’s a good stop for porch pumpkins and carving pumpkins in one trip.
New for 2026, according to Explore Waterloo Region:
- Cobby’s Corn Pit: a corn pit for kids to dig into.
- Hemlock Creek Trail: a quiet walk through the farm’s woods, a nice break from the busier play area.
The farm has also hosted local vendors with handmade items and seasonal decor during the fall season, which makes it easy to pick up a gift or two while the kids play.
Christmas Trees Later in the Year
Christmas trees are where Benjamin Tree Farm started, and they’re still a big part of the year. According to its Christmas trees page and FAQ, you can cut your own white pine, white spruce or balsam fir, or choose a pre-cut Fraser fir or balsam fir, from table toppers of 3 to 4 feet up to 12 to 13 foot trees. The St. Nick’s Picks gift shop opens for the Christmas season, with work from local makers and complimentary hot apple cider and cookies.
As of October 1, 2026, the 2026 Christmas season dates haven’t been announced. As a guide, the farm’s FAQ lists a past season (2020) that ran from November 14 to December 23.
Tips for Your Visit
- Bring the dog, with care: the farm is dog friendly but asks you to keep dogs away from the trees and pumpkin fields when they need to go, and to pick up after them.
- Payment: the farm’s FAQ notes it doesn’t take American Express. Payment details on its site vary by season, so bring more than one option.
- Wear sturdy shoes: you’ll be walking through pumpkin fields, play areas and a wooded trail.
- No appointment needed: during regular open hours you can just show up for pumpkins or Christmas trees.
Living Near the Farm
Part of what I like about Waterloo is how quickly the city turns into farmland. From the west side of the city, a pumpkin farm, a corn maze or a cut-your-own Christmas tree is only a short drive away. If that mix of city amenities and open country appeals to you, take a look at homes for sale in Waterloo, or browse our neighbourhood guide to compare areas.
