Christmas at Doon 2026: Holiday Events at Doon Heritage Village

As of October 1, 2026, Region of Waterloo Museums hasn’t announced Christmas at Doon for 2026, and it isn’t in the museums’ Fall 2026 events brochure. In 2025 it ran on Sundays in December, starting December 7, 2025. Two ticketed holiday evenings are confirmed at Doon Heritage Village for 2026: LanternLight on December 4, 5, 11 and 12, and Starry Night on December 18 and 19.

2026 Dates: What’s Confirmed So Far

Christmas at Doon is the holiday version of a visit to Doon Heritage Village, the living history village behind the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum in Kitchener. As of October 1, 2026, the 2026 dates haven’t been announced. In 2025 it ran on Sundays in December, starting December 7, 2025, from 11 a.m., based on the museum calendar listing shared by Explore Waterloo Region. Use that as a rough guide only.

The museums’ Fall 2026 seasonal events brochure does list two holiday evenings in the village:

What to Expect at Doon at Christmas

Doon Heritage Village recreates a small Waterloo County village from the early 1900s, with historic homes, shops, a church and farm buildings. At Christmas, the idea is simple: stroll the village streets, see the old-fashioned decorations and enjoy the winter scenery. Explore Waterloo Region described the 2025 event as a chance to “stroll through the streets of Doon Heritage Village and enjoy the rustic Christmas decorations and beautiful wintery nature.”

There’s more to see in 2026. The village reopened on July 1, 2026, after work on its pathways, power and accessibility, under the new theme “One Village, Many Stories.” New stories include a Martin House partnership that explores Black Caribbean and Mennonite family experiences, plus a look at Indigenous farming techniques. The museums note that the Bricker Barn is temporarily closed for maintenance and McArthur House is not open this season, so a few buildings may be off limits.

LanternLight and Starry Night

If you want the village after dark, these two ticketed evenings are your best bet in 2026.

LanternLight (December 4, 5, 11 and 12, 2026)

Guided tours of the village by lantern light. You’ll hear how Christmas was celebrated long ago, try festive samples, take a wagon ride and finish with a sing-along in the church. Admission is timed between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., at $25 per person plus HST.

Starry Night (December 18 and 19, 2026)

A fundraising evening in the lantern-lit village, with a horse-drawn wagon ride, historic buildings to visit, apple cider, sweet treats, festive music and carols. It runs 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and costs $28 per adult and $15 per child aged 3 to 17, plus HST.

Admission, Hours and Parking

Doon Heritage Village shares its entrance with the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum at 10 Huron Road, Kitchener. Regular 2026 admission to the museum and village, per the admissions page:

  • Children (5 to 12): $8
  • Children 4 and under: free
  • Family or small group (up to 4 people): $30

The museum’s regular 2026 hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pricing for Christmas at Doon 2026 hasn’t been posted, so check whether it’s included with regular admission once the event is announced.

  • Parking: free at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum, with electric vehicle charging at $1 per hour.
  • Accessibility: the village now has permanent ramps, levelled pathways, assistive listening devices and sensory support kits. All-terrain wheelchairs are free at the museum, first come, first served.
  • Support persons: under the Companion/PAL program, a companion or support person gets in at no charge with a paid admission.
  • Pets: not permitted, except service animals.

My tip: December afternoons get dark early and the village is outdoors, so dress for the weather and plan to arrive early in the day.
