Welcome to the WRX Property Group website and blog! Today, we’re continuing along with our investigations of the various retirement communities throughout Kitchener-Waterloo. Today, we’ll be looking at the Clair Hills Retirement Community in Waterloo.
Location
The Clair Hills Retirement Community is located at the corner of Erbsville Road and Columbia Street West. It’s in the neighbourhood of Laurelwood, one of the most popular, sought-after neighbourhoods in all of Kitchener-Waterloo.
There are reasonably-sized shopping areas north along Erbsville Road, and to the east along Columbia Street West.
The John M. Harper Branch of the Waterloo Public Library is less than five minutes away by car (off of Fischer-Hallman Road North), and the incredible, enormous Laurel Creek Conservation Area is just a few more minutes northeast of that.
All of this is to say that the Clair Hills Retirement Community is in a great location; there’s just about everything you could need nearby. You can read more about the Laurelwood neighbourhood in its WRX article here.
Furthermore, you can check out this handy map Clair Hills put together, which shows many of the finest nearby destinations throughout Kitchener-Waterloo (see the map here).
But what about Clair Hills itself? The Clair Hills Retirement Community is part of the Signature Retirement Living family of retirement communities.
Signature Retirement Living has locations in several cities in Ontario, as well as one in Calgary, and it’s dedicated to providing Vibrant Senior Living.
The staff at Clair Hills share this commitment to enriching the residents’ lives, and ensuring that they each receive the specific care that they need. The property and the overall complex themselves are quite nice, too.
Around the Clair Hills suites are elegant young trees and gardens. The Clair Hills building is stunning: from the outside, it is strikingly elegant and modern, and the interior is handsomely decorated, with bright shades of brown illuminated by large windows.
Care Available
There are three primary types of care provided at the Clair Hills Retirement Community: Independent Living; Assisted Living; and Respite Care.
Respite Care is designed for residents just staying for a short (or a fixed) period of time.
This program is for individuals seeking short-term care (such as anyone convalescing after a medical procedure), and it provides access to the Clair Hill care-providers and health care professionals, emergency response system, medication administration, 24 hour-a-day nursing care, physiotherapy and therapeutic facilities (including the spa), and, of course, the
Clair Hill facilities themselves, which include the lounge, and the built-in community of fellow residents.
For Respite Care, there are rates available by the day, by the week, and by the month – it’s just a matter of how long you’re interested in staying.
Independent Living is perfect for residents looking to become part of the active community at Clair Hills, leading the lives they want to with the added comfort of support and medical staff on hand at all times.
Access to the common areas and therapeutic areas such as the salt water pool are also key benefits, as well as transportation to shopping and events on the Clair Hills bus, and three meals per day.
Assisted Living care provides all the perks of Independent Living and Respite Care, with several additional features. Doctors and medical professionals visit the Clair Hills facilities, and nursing services are available all day.
Residents have access to medication administration – the Clair Hills staff will handle everything pertaining to your specific medication.
Additionally, Assisted Living provides bathing assistance and weekly personal laundry. CCAC services are welcome (Community Care Access Centre).

Accommodation
In addition to the various types of care available at Clair Hills, there are also a range of suites from which to choose. The basic options are as follows: the Single Suite (studio), which includes a kitchenette, main room, bathroom, and balcony (see the layout here).
The 1 Bedroom suite has each of those, but with two walk-in closets, and a separate bedroom and living room (see it here). The 1 Bedroom + Den, as you may have guessed, adds a den to the 1 Bedroom layout (see it here).
The 2 Bedroom adds a second bedroom and an en suite bathroom in addition to the normal bathroom; it has three standard closets rather than two walk-ins; and its balcony is split into two sections, one accessible from the Master Bedroom, and one accessible from the living/dining room.
The 2 Bedroom suite also has a Washing Machine and a Dryer (you can see the layout here). Finally, the 2 Bedroom + Den suite has an additional room (the den), but a slightly smaller balcony (see it here).
Several features are common to each of the layouts. Kitchenettes come equipped with a refrigerator and a microwave; windows have coverings; and the floors are carpeted. Bathrooms have safety features, and they are spacious enough to accommodate specialty needs.
You can control the heat from your own suite, so you’ll be able to adjust the temperature to your liking. Emergency systems available include call buttons and a personal pendant, ensuring that if ever you’re in need of assistance, you can easily contact staff.
Suites come equipped with smoke and heat detectors, as well as an effective sprinkler system. Some of Clair Hills Retirement Centre’s finest features, however, are the common areas, events, and resident services.
Facilities
When you enter Clair Hills through the Main Lobby, you’ll get a good idea of what a great place this is. With its fancy furnishings and stone fireplace, the Clair Hills Retirement Community is an elegant place, indeed.
There are a lounge and a library available for residents, with plenty of seating (and plenty of books, too).
There are computers available for residents, as well as an on-site pub with snacks and drinks, a beauty salon and spa, a chapel, a movie theatre, and a potting room (for all your gardening needs).
The salt water pool is great for fun, relaxation, and of course the exercise and therapeutic benefits provided by swimming. Clair Hills features a variety of events throughout the year – here’s a list of the ones coming up.
Conclusion
The Clair Hills Retirement Community is a wonderful establishment, perfect for anyone looking to enjoy their lives with the added support and care provided by the care services.
