How to Find the Best Realtor in Kitchener-Waterloo - WRX Property Group

So you’re looking to buy or sell a house. That’s awesome! Are you excited? Nervous? Both? Neither? Well, however you’re feeling, one of the first big decisions you’ll want to think about is: who should be my realtor?

*They don’t actually say this over in England, but it’s true: real-estate is like drinking tea.

Everyone looks for different things, on a different timeframe, and with distinct preferences. So here are some ideas to help you find the perfect fit for you.

Search engines make everything easier. Whether you use Google, Bing, or anything in between, putting in a bit of online research can help make you aware of who’s available, and what they specialize in.

This comes at the top of the list as this is the step that helps enable all the rest – for a good real-estate company, you’ll want to be sure they are easy to find online, and easy to contact.

Making a list of viable options, with contact details, is key to this research phase.

Do you have specific concerns or inquiries? Or do you want a general sense of what a realtor is all about? Email them!

Opening up a line of communication is one of the best ways to see if a realtor is right for you. Do they respond quickly? Courteously? Thoroughly?

These are all important factors you should pay attention to.

Because your realtor will be representing you to others, and communicating on your behalf, you want to make sure they do so respectably and professionally.

For example, if they email you back using nothing but cat emojis and exclamation marks, perhaps they’re not the most reliable of realtors.

Emailing your prospective realtors is a great first step, and the way they respond will tell you plenty about the way they handle their business. So email away! Or even better…

Call Them

Find Out What Your Home is Worth

As good as emails are in getting to know a potential realtor, a simple phone call can be even better. Getting a sense of who they are – and how well you get along with them – is incredibly important.

Buying or selling a home is incredibly exciting, but it can also be nerve-wracking.

A great realtor will be working closely with you throughout this journey, and by having a conversation on the phone, you can determine if they are up to the task.

A few things to look out for (or listen out for, more accurately):

Do they listen to your questions and answer them fully? You want to find someone who listens, not just hears.

You’re not looking for a sales pitch or a list of talking points. You want a conversation, in which your needs and expectations are understood, and your concerns are addressed.

Are they trying to eat while speaking to you? If you hear crunching, munching, and/or chewing in between answers, you can come to a few conclusions. On the optimistic side, maybe this realtor is a highly-driven multi-tasker.

But more realistically, maybe they aren’t going to give you their full, undivided attention.

Social Media

Contact a Real Estate Expert

In this day and age, social media plays a major role in our daily life. Keeping in touch with family, figuring out where to eat, and yes, finding a realtor – social media can be an important tool for each of these things.

So… how should you make the best use of this tool when it comes to real estate?

Choosing a real-estate agent is a very important decision, and you will want to be certain that you choose wisely. With social media, there are a few ways you can figure out if your chosen realtor will be a good fit for you.

Are they on Facebook? How active are they?

You can tell a lot about a realtor by how they represent themselves online. Does the real-estate company have reviews?

What are people saying about them? Pay attention to both the good and the bad reviews – assuming there are a bit of both!

But also pay attention to the quantity of reviews, and who’s writing them. If you choose to go with a small real-estate group, there will likely be fewer reviews in total, which makes it important to read them and get a sense of how previous clients feel about them.

LinkedIn

Check Out 6 Things to Watch Out for When Picking a Realtor

LinkedIn is a great resource for employers and employees alike. But you should know it can be very helpful in your quest to find a suitable realtor, too.

Try looking up your prospective real-estate agent in LinkedIn’s database. This lets you see a nicely summarized list of their experience and credentials.

What skills do they bring to the table? Where did they receive their education?

What real-world experience do they have? What languages can they speak? It doesn’t take long to answer these questions, and spending some time looking through their online resumé is time well-spent.

Ask Around

See What Our Clients Say

Do you know someone who bought or sold a property recently? Do you know someone who knows someone else? Good!

Anyone who’s been in the real-estate market recently will surely have some words of wisdom to bestow upon you.

Did they have a great experience with their realtor? A so-so one? Was their realtor unfriendly and unhelpful?

Finding these things out can give you more ideas as to which realtor to pick, which to find out more about, and which to avoid.

Even if you don’t find your realtor this way, you can get a better idea of what questions other people wished they had asked, and what things they wish they’d looked for.

Gather information, and make an informed decision – ask people you trust!
