Lincoln Heights is a bit further from the campus and those residing range from retired couples to young families but offers a peaceful and friendly neighbourhood, where student rentals are frequent. It is also in close proximity to the Weber Plaza Shopping Centre.

Uptown Waterloo is a trendy area with pedestrian and bike-friendly roads. It is approximately seven minutes of driving or biking and about 22 minutes via Transit. Transit makes it easy to travel if you don’t have a vehicle and the LRT runs often. It is almost 20 kilometres and runs from Kitchener to Waterloo.

There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the area that include having a nice meal at a popular restaurant or grabbing a pint at the local pub. Even Ctrl V, a virtual reality cafe on Columbia Street, is minutes away from the university and offers students a break from studying.

In the way of outdoor activity, there are plenty of parks and green spaces. The avid hiker would love some of the nearby trails. Columbia Hills is a perfect trail for all ages and is even dog-friendly. The 4.0-km loop trail takes just over an hour to complete. Iron Horse Trail on Erb Street has a gorgeous path for jogging or biking.

Columbia Lake is only a 15-minute walk from the campus. It is a beautiful green space with a walking and hiking trail and the views are breathtaking. Less than five minutes away, Waterloo Park has it all. Not only a lake, but they have an animal farm, picnic areas, splash pad, sports fields, playgrounds, and more. No wonder they call it the jewel of the city.

On the northeast side of the city is a 500-acre park called RIM Park. This industrial park offers both outdoor and indoor amenities.

Just a few minutes from the campus is the Perimeter Institute on Caroline Street. It is the leading centre for scientific research and training.

Located right on campus is David Johnston Research Park, which holds a community of innovators and hosts 21,000 co-op students.

On University Ave W is the Earth Sciences Museum offering a full day of interesting facts on everything earth science and university students drop in often.

The 401 is the closest highway and makes it convenient to drive to Toronto.

Region of Waterloo International Airport is just over twenty minutes drive. There is also Little Free Library on Regina Street.

There are many reasons to live close to the University of Waterloo. Not only is the neighbourhood beautiful but there are so many amenities nearby. The ease of walking to the University is perfect for students, and parents will be happier being closer to their child attending.
