The professional Master of Architecture degree requires a design or research thesis and is granted by the school. They also have a Co-op Program which allows students to gain much-needed paid work experience. The Rome studio focuses on giving students a unique perspective of design methods.
Most architecture students find the residency on campus to be fairly structured and prefer the flexibility of living off campus.
There is also a long list of scenic walking and hiking trails in the area. More than 50 km of natural and urban trails, some of which follow the banks of the Speed and Grand Rivers are some of the best in Ontario.
The Blair Trail is an easy hike, half a kilometre and is located at the start of the Grand Trunk Trail at the Trans Canada Trail close to the historic mill.
For more of a moderate trail, the Cambridge to Paris Trail is another popular choice. It is about 18 kilometres of level path that follows the Grand River and overlooks the river.
There are plenty of great parks and greenspaces to enjoy a full day of outdoor recreation.
Riverside Park, on King Street West, is Cambridge’s largest community park. There are some beautiful hiking trails and a boardwalk to enjoy.
They also have a playground and splash park. You can book one of their baseball fields, soccer fields, or volleyball courts. There is also a BMX and skateboard park.
There are several historic landmarks in the Cambridge area that visitors and residents enjoy. Just a couple of minutes away from the architectural campus is the Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge. It is located on Grand Avenue South, in a historic downtown setting along the Grand River. The performing arts facility hosts a multitude of different shows.
Another piece of history is the McDougall Cottage Historic Site. Built 165 years ago it is still a popular spot that hosts a variety of special events, honouring the area's Scottish heritage.
Amenities are abundant and there are hundreds of shops and restaurants.

Galt, also known as downtown Cambridge, is a sophisticated, urban downtown which sets the tone for the campus. Locals and those visiting enjoy walking the streets with waterside views. The architecture downtown feels like you are walking back in time.
East Galt is a mature neighbourhood with old-fashioned exterior brick homes and some luxury homes on large plots. There is some excellent potential to remodel your dream home here.
Hespeler is sometimes known as Popcorn House and the neighbourhood is quiet with lots of green space and community parks.
The Queen Street region of Hespeler is where you will find a lot of heritage homes, where residential properties were built pre-1900s.
Lang’s Farm and Preston Centre are neighbourhoods north of the Grand River. There you will find the best access to the 401. It is the perfect neighbourhood for young families with many parks and schools and a considerable selection of shopping and dining.
Silver Heights is an area with newer development and has many homes and condos constructed from the late 2000s into the early 2010s. Growing subdivisions are popping up with a mix of brand new condos, townhouses and single-family homes.
Alison Neighbourhood is minutes away. It is a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood, popular with young families. It has decent sized homes for a growing family, with big backyards. It is also conveniently located near the 401 for easy access out of town.
Shade’s Mills is a scenic area that receives its name thanks to the Shade’s Mills Conservation Area. It's a beautiful neighbourhood with tree-lined streets and forested areas.
There are more than enough amenities within walking distance, but the Grand River Transit operates a number of routes in Cambridge, four of which travel outside of the city.
