Sparkles 2026 Dates and Hours
Sparkles is St. Jacobs village’s holiday shopping event. The shops along King Street stay open late, the village is lit up, and there’s live music and visits from Santa. The village lists Sparkles for November 12 to 15 and November 19 to 22, which fall Thursday to Sunday in 2026. That’s a change from 2024, when Sparkles ran over a single weekend, November 21 to 24, 2024.

What Happens at Sparkles
Think of Sparkles as an evening stroll with a shopping list. St. Jacobs has been a village since 1852, and its main street, close to the Conestoga River, is lined with independent shops, bakeries and restaurants. During Sparkles they stay open into the evening and the village is decorated with lights.
- Waterloo County Carollers. Singing in the village every day of the event, at the times in the table above.
- Free horse-drawn wagon rides. Friday and Saturday evenings, plus Sunday afternoons.
- Santa. Wandering the village on Friday and Saturday evenings, and settled in one spot on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
- Holiday shopping. A good chance to cross off gifts from local makers before the December rush.
There are no tickets for Sparkles itself. You pay only for what you buy.
When to go
If you want the full experience in one visit, a Friday or Saturday evening is the sweet spot: late shopping, carollers, wagon rides and Santa all overlap between 6 and 8 p.m. With young kids, a Saturday or Sunday afternoon gets you Santa in daylight and an earlier bedtime. Thursdays are usually the quietest, which suits a relaxed evening of shopping.
Parking and Getting There
St. Jacobs is just north of Waterloo in Woolwich Township, so most people drive in. The Township of Woolwich runs two free, all-day municipal lots in the village:
- Front Street lot. Free all day (this is also the bus parking lot).
- Albert Street and Water Street lot. Free all day for cars, campers and buses.
- Street parking. Free on-street parking downtown for up to three hours.
- Accessible parking. Display your Ontario accessible parking permit to use the accessible spaces.
Two rules to keep in mind in November: parking in municipal lots isn’t allowed between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., and vehicles on the street during a winter parking ban or snow event may be ticketed. Full details are on Woolwich’s parking page.
Neither the village nor the township has posted a pet policy for Sparkles. The sidewalks get busy in the evenings, so think about whether your dog will enjoy it.
Pair It With the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market
The St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market, at 878 Weber Street North, is a short drive south of the village and open year round on Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Since Sparkles starts on a Thursday and runs through Saturday, you can do the market in the morning and the village in the evening.
A few things to know: parking at the market is free, but the main lots are usually full by 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Pets aren’t allowed on market property (service animals are welcome). The market also lists a ticketed Holiday Sip and Shop Night Market on November 20 and 27, so check the market’s holiday page if you want to add an evening there.
Living in St. Jacobs
Sparkles shows off what people love about living in St. Jacobs: a walkable main street, a small-town feel, and events that bring neighbours out on a cold night. You’re still a short drive from Waterloo’s shopping, universities and tech offices, and the market is down the road.
St. Jacobs is a small village, so there are fewer homes for sale at any one time than in the city, and it helps to be ready when the right one lists. If St. Jacobs is on your list, take a look at homes for sale in St. Jacobs or reach out and I’ll tell you what’s been selling.
