Waterloo Rib & Beer Fest 2026: Everything You Need to Know Before You Go

The Waterloo Rib & Beer Fest runs Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 12, 2026 at RIM Park, 2001 University Ave E in Waterloo. Admission is $3 per person, kids under 5 get in free, and it's part of the Northern Heat Rib Series, which brings some of the best competitive BBQ ribbers in the province to one field for one weekend.

That's the short version. Here's everything else, because there are a few things about this event that are worth knowing before you show up, and one thing that could actually win you your money back a few times over.

When is Waterloo Ribfest and what are the hours?

The festival runs three days at RIM Park:

Friday, July 10: 4pm to 11pm Saturday, July 11: 12pm to 11pm Sunday, July 12: 12pm to 7pm

One detail people miss: gates close one hour before the posted closing time each night. So if your plan is to roll in Saturday at 10:30pm for a late rack of ribs, that plan doesn't work. Get there earlier.

How much does it cost to get in?

Three dollars per person. Kids five and under are free.

That's the whole admission. You'll spend more on the ribs themselves, obviously, but the gate is basically the cost of a coffee, and a portion of the event supports charitable donations. For a family of four with young kids, you might get in for six bucks.

What's the food actually like?

This is competition BBQ, not food court BBQ. The ribbers on the Northern Heat circuit spend their whole summer travelling town to town, smoking ribs out of rigs the size of a small car, and they're competing against each other all weekend. That competition matters, because nobody phones it in when the trailer next to them is fighting for the same trophy.

Most vendors accept cash, debit, and credit, and there are ATMs on site if you need one.

What's the Battle of the Ribs, and how do I win the $100 gift card?

Here's the thing I mentioned. You get to vote for your favourite ribs and sauce of the weekend, and casting your vote enters you in a draw for a $100 gift card. Full details are at the event.

So the move is: sample ribs from more than one ribber (this is called research), pick your favourite, vote, and maybe get your whole day paid for. Twelve dollars of admission for a family and a shot at a hundred back. I've made worse investments.

Who's playing? The live music lineup

There's live music all weekend, and the Saturday night slot is a big one if you're a Canadian rock fan.

Friday 5pm to 8pm: Wicked Truth 9pm to 10:30pm: Just Jovi (Bon Jovi tribute)

Saturday 1pm to 4pm: Pink Leather Jackets 5pm to 6:30pm: Street Survivors (Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute) 7:30pm to 10:30pm: The Tragically Trip (Tragically Hip tribute)

Sunday 1pm to 2:30pm: Otis Wonder & The Hustle 3:30pm to 6:30pm: Fried Bologna

If you only make one show, make it Saturday night. Ribs in hand, sun going down, and three hours of The Hip played by a band that clearly loves this music. That's about as good as a July evening in Waterloo gets.

Is there beer? What can I drink?

Yes. The Beer Market, brought to you by Budweiser, has ice-cold Labatt products, Pelee Island wine, Mike's Hard coolers, Canadian Club mixers, and Black Fly frozen drinks.

How it works: buy drink tickets at the ticket tent near the bar (it opens when the event opens), then redeem them for drinks. You need to be 19 or older with valid photo ID.

Two timing rules to know: last call for ticket purchases is one hour before closing, and the beer tent itself stops serving 30 minutes before close. No refunds after those cutoffs, so don't buy a stack of tickets at 9:55pm on Saturday.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes, and you should. The event is family friendly, kids under 5 are free, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons are the easiest windows with little ones, since the gates open at noon and the crowds build toward the evening.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. Pets are welcome as long as they're leashed and you clean up after them. There's a pet waiver you can fill out online before you go and show at the gate, which saves you time at entry.

Where do I park at RIM Park for Ribfest?

RIM Park has on-site parking, and the event publishes a parking map you can download ahead of time. If you'd rather skip parking entirely, the park is reachable by public transit.

My honest advice as someone who's lived here a while: Saturday evening is the crunch. If you're coming for The Tragically Trip, arrive by late afternoon, eat first, and you'll have a much better night than the folks circling the lot at 7:15.

Anything else I should know before I go?

A few quick ones. There's a bag check at entry, and no open beverage containers are allowed in. If you lose something (or someone), the Command Tent at the main entrance handles lost and found, and any event staff or vendor can help with a missing person. And wear something you don't mind getting sauce on, because you will get sauce on it.
